3D Printing at FSU Libraries

Dirac Science Library provides a 3D printing service for all current FSU students, faculty, and staff.

What is 3D Printing?

3D printing is the process of adding (or subtracting) successive layers of a material to create a 3D object.

We use two LulzBot TAZ 6 3D printersThey create 3D objects through Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). FDM is the process of stacking thin layers of heated plastic, which fuse and set into a solid shape as they cool and harden.

We currently print with two types of material: PLA (Polyactic acid) and nGen. PLA is a bioplastic-based material derived from corn. nGen is is a high quality, polyester-based filament made from Eastman Amphora AM3300 3D polymer.
