African Studies

This research guide points to resources relevant to African Countries, Regions, and Subjects.

African Studies is an interdisciplinary subject area which involves many countries, regions, and cultures and many subject disciplines, including anthropology, art and art history, history, economics, geography, international affairs, music, political science, religion, and sociology.

This research guide points to some outstanding and general points to begin inquiry into African studies.  It is by no means comprehensive, but should help you get started on an African studies research project.

Key Resources

The International Studies LibGuide points to many databases and online resources which are helpful for African Studies,  as well as other area studies' fields.

The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) is another excellent resource for books, periodicals, manuscripts, newspapers, and archival materials in print, microfilm, and digital formats. FSU belongs to this international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries, which allows FSU patrons to borrow CRL materials via interlibrary loan for extended periods.

One way to identify key collections is through CRL Topic Guides.  See, for example, the Topic Guide for African Studies.
