Introduction

Data Analysis is an important part of understanding a field. I have included 5 software's to help you along the way. FSU has a couple of subscriptions focused on learning skills including data analysis.

SAS -clear interface -built-in datasets

SPSS -point and click statistics -better for complex analysis -built-in datasets

R -great for creating graphs -easy to learn

Python -many possible uses -great if you are interested in programming

Stata -focuses on reproducibility -can create complex graphs

Excel -very accessible -widely used

Peer Recommendations

Hi! I am Sage Quillen, a mathematics and statistics double major here at Florida State University. I have experience programming for data analysis. I would like to give you some recommendations for some of the languages.

SPSS - SSPS Statistics Essential Training (LinkedIn Learning database)

  • Provides data files and uses built-in data samples
  • Good for users that have basic statistics

Python - Introduction of Python (Sage Campus database)

  • Move at your own pace

R - Introduction of R (Sage Campus database)

  • Provides code to follow

Video Tutorials on YouTube

Publisher: SAS

Description:

This video shows you how to use SAS's point and click features with an included sample size. The narrator shows how to access command script, basic statistics, and print results.

Publisher: Data for Development, a company for e-learning materials

Description:

This course shows you how to download SPSS and provides a basic data and variables lesson. It includes a tutorial of frequency tables and a few charts.

This course is great for those who are not familiar with statistics as the narrator provides great descriptions and examples. He also helps you to interpret the results of the analysis.

Publisher: HBJ Academy

Description:

This video introduces you to Stata and the basics of inputting data, importing data, and components of Stata like the do-file. This tutorial shows you how to do all of the basic statistical analysis like frequency tables, bar charts, box plots, scatterplot, correlation, line of best fit, and regression. He also shows you how to add new variables based on your existing ones.

Publisher: Learn data analytics from us

Description:

This video series is a slow paced tutorial of Stata and its features. In the first video, he shows the features of the interface, menu items, log panel, data editor and help command. At the end, you know how to create a frequency table with a sample data from Stata.

Publisher: Equitable Equations

Description:

This tutorial shows you how to download R. Subsequently, it shows you how to import data and load libraries for added functions. The video walks you through how to access the built-in datasets as well as the help menu. He shows you the functions mutate, filter, group by and summarize. He also does an introduction to ggplot by demonstrating scatter plot, histogram, linear regression. R Markdown is also mentioned.

Publisher: Luke Barousse

Description:

This is a fast-paced and detailed tutorial on how to start coding in Python starting with the basics.

Publisher: Learnit Training

Description:

This Excel tutorial goes over the basics of tables, pivot tables and common functions. It also includes how you can use the Copilot pane.
