AI Research Assistant

This guide provides information on the AI Research Assistant, an AI add-on to the library content discovery system (OneSearch)

How to Cite

Students that intend to use and cite AI-generated content for course assignments, first consult with the instructor. Instructors have varying opinions and class policies about how or whether students may use ChatGPT or other Generative AI tools. To determine if there is an AI policy or guidelines, check the publishing style in your field.

Responsible Use of AI

  • When you use an AI-powered tool for your research, it is important to verify the content and disclose the use to your instructors, collaborators and publishers. The scope and content of databases that AI-powered tools search limit the accuracy and completeness of AI-generated results. Moreover, these tools can inadvertently lead to plagiarism by generating content that directly copies existing work without giving proper credit or by incorporating ideas and findings from published material with inaccurate or missing citations. It is advisable to utilize AI tools in conjunction with traditional resources like library databases. Furthermore, it is recommended to start with original text and use AI to refine it.
