Charles Darwin was an English naturalist and biologist who first introduced the scientific theory of evolution by natural selection which would become the foundation of modern evolutionary studies. He introduced his theory of evolution in the book On the Origin of Species which was published in 1859. A first edition of this book can be found in Special Collections and Archives and is featured below.
