Resources for Piano Pedagogy

Tips and tricks for finding and browsing resources related to piano pedagogy

Piano-specific periodicals

Locating articles on specific topics

  • Music Index primarily indexes journal articles, and generally indexes more materials relating to education and pedagogy.
    • A search for piano and instruction and study rather than piano pedagogy provides better results in this resource.
  • RILM Abstracts indexes articles, books, dissertations, essays in books and more. Because of its international focus, search results from RILM are often in many different languages. RILM is often a great resource for historical and theoretical articles.
  • PsycInfo indexes articles in psychology, but also related fields such as music education and music therapy.  You can use the "Methodology" option under "limit your results" to search for articles using specific kinds of research methodologies (e.g. empirical, literature review, qualitative, quantitative). Be sure to scroll down the page to get to it! PsycInfo is a great place to start your research!
