International Criminal Court (ICC): An independent, permanent court that tries persons accused of the most serious crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The ICC can only prosecute crimes committed after July 1, 2002.The ICC’s Legal Tools Database serves as a complete virtual library on international criminal law and justice. The Tool comprises of more than 44,000 documents and legal digests.
International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR): Established by the U.N. Security Council by resolution S/RES/955 in November 1994. The ICTR prosecutes persons responsible for genocide and other serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of Rwanda between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1994.
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY): Established by the United Nations Resolution S/RES/827 in response to war crimes during the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990's. The ICTY was the first war crimes court created by the UN and the first international war crimes tribunal since the Nuremberg and Tokyo tribunals.
