Key Resources & Tips

These are the databases most relevant for finding material on film studies. For a more extensive list of useful databases, see the "Find Articles" tab on the guide's navigation tool.

Using the correct terminology helps to find quicker and more effective results. To find the best information, make sure to implement the Boolean search terms: AND, OR, and NOT. Additionally, make use of quotation marks and asterisks to help maximize your search results.

Here are some suggested terms to search for using the "Subject Heading" drop down option in the Libraries Catalog. You can refine your searches by using the "Narrow Results By" filters located in the left-hand column of the catalog.

Use the Library of Congress Classification Outline to browse for serendipitous discovery of books in your subject area. Here are the call number ranges for film studies:

  • Motion pictures : PN 1993 - 1999
  • Movies and screenplays : PN 1995 - 1997
  • Adaptation : PZ 1995 - 1997
  • Cinematography : TR 845 - 899
  • Animated cartoons : NC 1765
