Research Guides: Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS): Getting Started

WRDS data is compiled from independent sources that specialize in specific historic data, including the Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP), Standard & Poor's COMPUSTAT, Thomson Reuters Institutional Holdings Database, Thomson Reuters Insiders Data, and others.

Provided by the FSU College of Business, WRDS: Wharton Research Data Services is the leading, comprehensive, Internet-based data research service used by academic, government, non-profit institutions, and corporate firms. WRDS provides the user with one location to access over 200 terabytes of data across multiple disciplines including Finance, Marketing, and Economics. WRDS provides flexible data delivery options including executing research and strategy development on the WRDS computing cloud.

Alumni members of the community, research colleagues outside the university, and other persons not actively employed or registered with FSU do not qualify to access this database.

Funding and control of this database is provided by the FSU College of Business.

How to Connect to WRDS

Basic Web Access: All current FSU grad students, faculty, and staff may access WRDS subscriptions via a web interface. Undergraduates may be allowed access with an instructor’s permission.

WRDS Research accounts are available to current faculty and doctoral students at FSU.

To request an individual account, go to http://wrds-web.wharton.upenn.edu/wrds/. Click on "Register for a WRDS Account" and then fill in the required fields (use your FSU email address) and choose the appropriate type of account. After receiving approval, an account will be created, and you will receive an email message with a special URL and instructions for setting the account password and logging into WRDS. This may take a day or more.
