Ethical AI Use with FSU Library Resources

When using AI tools with FSU Libraries' materials, always respect copyright and licensing terms. Avoid copying or redistributing full-text content, and ensure proper citation of sources. Use AI to support—not replace—ethical research practices. When in doubt, consult library staff or copyright resources.

1. Don't upload information downloaded from FSU Libraries databases directly into AI tools outside of FSU, Use FSU licensed versions of Copilot and Gemini.

2. Use AI tools to question your work or to explain a concept. Do your own work and use AI to polish your writing. Make sure your voice is hear in the writing.

3. Cite your sources, whether AI is helping you write a paper or generate ideas, proper attribution to original authors is still required.

4. Keep versions of your work as you interact with AI to show your thought process and prove your work.

FSU Library’s AI Assistant
The AI Research Assistant is a generative AI-powered tool designed to simplify the discovery of library resources by allowing natural language research queries. When you submit a question, the system provides summaries with relevant citations sourced from the Central Discovery Index (CDI), a unified index of scholarly materials from trusted sources. As with the OneSearch, the AI Research Assistant helps you discover content available through the FSU catalog and other state university catalogs. Unlike tools such as ChatGPT, it guarantees accurate references and does not generate fabricated sources. This intuitive approach removes the need for complex search syntax and Boolean operators, enabling you to concentrate on your research instead of composing search strings.

Google Gemini
Google Gemini is an AI-powered productivity tool designed to enhance your work and learning experience across Google Workspace. This program is embedded in the Google Workspace, including Google Drive, to empower students, faculty and staff. AI-powered features include smart writing suggestions, email and chat summaries, data insights and automated content creation.
Copilot for M365
Copilot for M365 is an AI-powered productivity solution from Microsoft designed to help you work smarter and faster. The program is embedded in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and OneNote and can be used to summarize content, organize action items, draft presentations and more. Features like intelligent writing assistance, message summarization, data analysis and content creation can help ease digital overload and increase employee productivity and team efficiencies.

Statista "Research AI" is located on the top left of the page and accesses the 10 most relevant sources from Statista's vast database, connecting them to your query, and processing them through Statista's LLM (Claude 3 Sonnet) to deliver insights.
BCC Research Beacon
BCC Beacon can be found at the top of the page on the far right of the search box. Beacon is designed to help you efficiently navigate BCC Research's extensive market data and reports. Beacon is explicitly trained on BCC Research's proprietary content, ensuring highly relevant and accurate responses.
