Finding Books at FSU Libraries

Check out the video below to learn about using our OneSearch discovery tool to search for books and ebooks in our collection!

Browsing with Call Numbers

What's a call number?

At FSU Libraries, we use the Library of Congress Classification system to topically organize our books, so that books on the same subject are grouped together. This classification system uses call numbers, which are alphanumeric codes, to identify and organize materials in this way. After using OneSearch to find a book you are interested in, you will use that item's unique call number to locate it on our shelves.

If you don't have a specific book you are looking for, you can look up the call numbers that correspond to the topic of your research to begin browsing relevant sections of our collection. Visit our subject-specific research guides for more detailed information on call numbers pertinent to your field, or use the Library of Congress Classification Outline to identify call numbers related to your subject area that you can use to begin browsing our collection!
