How to Find Books

Books about communication can be found by browsing in Strozier Library or in the Dirac Science Library, and by
1. browsing the physical shelves;
2. searching the FSU Library Catalog; or
3. searching the eBook databases

Or,
If the book you want is not available,
4. request a UBorrow or Interlibrary Loan service. 

1. Browsing Strategy

Books on communication disorders and subjects connected to it are located in Strozier Library and the Dirac Science Library. The majority of the 'H's, "N's" and 'P's are located in Strozier, and the majority of 'T's are located at Dirac. Some subjects and their general location on the shelf are listed below.

Government documents, micromaterials, and media are in the Scholars Commons, which is located on the ground floor of Strozier Library. Here are Library of Congress classifications that give you general locations for relevant material.

H  Social Sciences

HD  Public Relations

N  Advertising. Fine Arts

P  Communication. Mass Media

T  Technology

The Library of Congress (LC) Classification for call numbers represent the subject of the book. Materials such as reference books and documents will be found on the ground floor.

  • P87 - 96   --   Communication. Mass Media
  • P99.5 - 95.6   --   Non Verbal Communication
  • P101 - 410 --   Language. Linguistics theory. Comparative grammar.
  • HE 7601 - 8700 -- Telecommunication Industry 

2. Searching the FSU Library Catalog

To do a simple search, use the basic search at the library's homepage or catalog search page. Search by KeywordTitleJournal Title, or Author

Searching by a subject headings may also be helpful when you are exploring a research topic.  Use the advanced search for this option. Select Subject Heading from the drop-down menu to the right of the search box. Enter words or phrases in the search box relevant to your subject of interest.


 You can limit your search by publication date, language (English only), etc.
