A third-generation American painter, James (Jamie) Wyeth was the son of artist Andrew Wyeth and grandson of artist N.C. Wyeth. He was born on the 6th of July 1946 in Wilmington, Delaware. Privately tutored at home and in the studio of his Aunt Carolyn Wyeth, he started a career in the arts at an early age and had his first show before his 21st year. His painting is known for its realism, like his father, with many of his paintings featuring landscapes around Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and Cushing, Maine where he was raised. However, he departed from the family tradition in his participation in the National Guard from 1966 to 1971. This impacted his art as he would go on to do portraits of political and military figures. He is also well-known for his friendship with and portrait of Andy Warhol. Jamie Wyeth continues to paint and has had his work exhibited in museums across the country, including the National Gallery of Art, The National Portrait Gallery, The Museum of Modern Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum, The Morgan Library and Museum, and more.
