As the Library of Congress (2010) states, "The Country Studies Series presents a description and analysis of the historical setting and the social, economic, political, and national security systems and institutions of countries throughout the world. The series examines the interrelationships of those systems and the ways they are shaped by cultural factors" (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/frd/cs/about.html).
While newer versions of these documents are available online, older versions are useful for historical and research puroposes. For example, a country study on the Soviet Union from 1991 might reflect contemporary US government attitudes toward Moscow in a way that a more current country study might not.
Below is a spreadsheet of the Library of Congress Country Studies available at FSU. Please note that due to the size and age of the collections, some documents are not readily available.
