This session will explore the specific dissertation formatting requirements for FSU's manuscript clearance process and where to find our additional resources. We will also demonstrate some of the easiest methods of achieving this formatting in Word.

Mon 3/27, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Dissertation Roadmap Jeff Phillips | Social Sciences Librarian You may have heard that a dissertation is "a marathon, not a sprint." As you tackle this epic journey, it can be daunting not to know the shape of the road ahead. In this session, we will guide you through the "Dissertation Road Map," highlighting crucial challenges you will face and recommending tools and strategies for combating even the most intimidating obstacles. We will help you define the dissertation genre in your discipline, identify your support team, and plot your way forward on a reasonable timeline for the dissertation.

Mon 3/27, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Advanced Strategies for Searching Literature: A Hands-on Workshop Kyung Kim | Social Sciences Librarian In this 1.5-hour hands-on workshop, dissertation writers will learn how to employ advanced strategies to search literature on two given social sciences topics and discuss the search strategies together. We will touch on Web of Science, Semantic Scholar, Dissertations & Theses (ProQuest), Social Sciences Premium Collection, JSTOR, and Google Scholar. We highly recommend this session to those who attended our "Literature Review for Social Sciences" session in the past or watched the recording first before joining this workshop. Tue 3/28, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Covidence: A Tool for Systematic & Scoping Reviews Kelly Grove | GIS and Earth Science Librarian Are you working on a systematic or a super robust literature review? Come to this workshop to learn about Covidence, a systematic review management tool. Covidence can help you keep track of all the articles you found, set inclusion and exclusion criteria parameters, and allow for collaborative work between authors. Help set yourself up for success and learn about a tool to streamline your review.
Tue 3/28, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Stress and Time Management Zabe Thompson | Assistant Director in the Center for Health Advocacy and Wellness
 
The presentation will discuss stress management through the use of self-care strategies. Attendees will also learn how to develop thrown time management strategies that aid in the dissertation writing process and general management of the graduate school.
Wed 3/29, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Intermediate Qualtrics April Lovett | Academic Health Data Services Librarian This session will teach participants how to incorporate intermediate Qualtrics functions into their survey instruments. Participants will gain hands-on training in using functions such as Skip, Display Logic, and Piping. Plus, participants will learn how to export their data for multiple choice and text options and ways to clean their data for analysis.

Attendees will gain hands-on experience identifying and exploring secondary data through repositories such as ICPSR and data.gov.
Thur 3/30, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Copyright for the Dissertation & Beyond Devin Soper | Director of the Office of Digital Research and Scholarship

You've finally finished your research and are now looking to publish. This workshop will cover what new authors need to know about copyright. It will also answer frequently asked copyright questions for dissertations and beyond.

Thur 3/30, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Surviving the Dissertation: A Student Panel on the Dissertation Writing Process

This panel brings together FSU dissertation scholars from different colleges and fields of study. Panelists will be asked what they wished they knew about the dissertation process from the beginning and what they learned along the way. They will share tips and advice about writing your dissertation.

Available on Friday (3/31)  from 4 pm to 6 pm

  • Marcia (MFA student in creative writing) can assist with all aspects of academic writing: organizing, drafting, editing, and documenting (MLA, APA). She is experienced and eager to work with ESL writers.
  • Claire (MA student in rhetoric and composition) can assist with citations (MLA, APA), essay planning, and more. 

Available on Saturday (4/1) from 11 am to 1 pm 

  • Sarah (PhD student in creative writing) can assist with MLA and Chicago Citation Styles, research, and aspects of the writing process. 
  • Qiran (MFA student in creative writing) can assist with all citation styles (most familiar with MLA) and different aspects of writing. She is driven to help students with various language and writing backgrounds.
