Evaluating the studies you are including in your review can help you identify potential bias and improve the quality of your finished evidence synthesis project. Methods and tools for this may be called "quality assessment", "critical appraisal", or "risk of bias". The resources on this page provide an introduction to the topic and some example tools.
This step is typically not included in scoping reviews, mapping reviews, literature / narrative reviews, or other less formalized types of evidence synthesis, as these designs aim to discover what information is available on a topic rather than answering a question.
