Welcome, Students!

Which library has psychology materials?

Generally, there are three main places you'll find materials for Psychology Topics:

Disclaimer: this list just gives examples of what types of topics are located in the following three libraries; always check the catalog to get location and the accompanying call number of the resource.

Strozier Library contains materials with call numbers related to psychology (e.g.,call numbers beginning with BF for general psychology, LB 1050.9- for educational psychology, and HF5548.7-5548.85 for Industrial psychology, etc.)

Dirac Science Library contains materials with call numbers related to subjects like neuroscience (RC), childhood mental disorders (RJ), & counseling therapies (RC).

Medical Library contains a link to Psychiatry Online (Includes the DSM-IV-TR) and other resources related to psychology (e.g. Biological Psychology)

Finding Books

Books about psychology can be found in two main ways: by searching the online FSU Library Catalog and by browsing the Libraries' collection.

When searching the online catalog, a basic search will let you search by keyword, title, author, subject or call number. An advanced search will let you search by a combination of these fields, as well as by format, language, location, and date.

How is the subject organized in the libraries?

Psychology, as you well know, can cover a very broad range of topics and touches so many other disciplines of study.  In general, you will find books in Strozier in the 'BF's' on the third floor of Strozier.  In addition, if you are looking for psychiatry and some psychotherapuetic titles, you will probably find them in Dirac or the Medical School Library (in Dirac, you will be looking at books with 'R' call numbers, which are found on the 1st floor).

For example:

Counseling Psychology  is generally found under BF636.A2-Z . . .However, if you are looking for books about counseling of specific groups of people or interest areas, you may find that they have a different call number in some cases:

Psychoanalytic counseling BF175.4.C68 (Strozier, 3rd floor)

Mentoring BF637.M45 (Strozier, 3rd)

Pastoral counseling BV4012.2 (Strozier, 3rd)

Rehabilitation counseling HD7255.5 (Strozier, 4th)

Vocational guidance HF5381 (Strozier, 4th)

Employee counseling HF5549.5.C8 (Strozier, 4th)

Educational counseling LB1027.5 (Strozier, 4th)

Health counseling R727.4 (Dirac)
