Donating

The Emmett Till Archives are always growing, and FSU Special Collections & Archives is actively seeking donations of materials related to the life, death, and memory of Emmett Till, including but not limited to books, magazines, newspapers, personal papers, interviews, legal records, photographs, motion pictures, and digital versions of all of the preceding.

Emmett Louis Till

Emmett Louis Till, December 1954
Emmett Louis Till (1941-1955) of Chicago, Illinois was kidnapped and murdered in August 1955 while visiting relatives near Money, Mississippi. Till’s murder and the subsequent acquittal and confession of murder accomplices J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant were widely reported by national media, and demonstrated the prevalence of discrimination and violence against African-Americans in Mississippi and the American South. Till's murder is regarded as a significant catalyst for the midcentury African-American Civil Rights Movement.
