Company Research

How to research companies.

Four- Step Company Research

1. If you know the company is a public company,  use Hoover’s Academic or Mergent Online. If you can’t find any information on your company, double check to make sure it’s public or move to the next box.

2. If you think the company is a private company then use the following resources: PrivCo (larger companies >100 million) or Lexis/Nexis Academic Company Dossier or Hoover’s Academic. If you still can’t find any information on the company, search the news resources and the internet for information.

3. News and article information can add additional depth to your understanding of a company. Start with Business Source Complete, ABI/Inform Compete, Factiva, and Access World News (limit to city, state or country where company is located). The best company information comes from the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg’s BusinessWeek, Fortune, or Forbes. Search for these resources first.

4. If you are unable to find the company information you are looking for please contact one of your business librarians listed on the right.
