What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

ILL lets you borrow physical items (like books) and receive digital copies of articles or book chapters from other libraries across the country and around the world! To get started, you'll need to register for ILLiad by visiting your ILLiad account page. The first time you place a request, or if your ILL account has expired, you'll be prompted to add or verify your information.

Why would I request an ILL?

If an item isn't available through UBorrow+, you can place an ILL request in ILLiad. Starting with UBorrow+ first helps ensure faster delivery, lower costs, and lets the Resource Sharing team focus on troubleshooting and tracking down unique materials, so you're more likely to get what you need quickly.

Brand New to ILL- Registering in ILLiad

New to ILL? Start Here!

Brand new to ILL? No worries! The first thing you'll need to do is register for an ILLiad account.

This is one of the main differences between Interlibrary Loan and UBorrow+:

  • UBorrow+: As an FSU scholar, you're automatically set up to request physical items.
  • ILL: You'll need to complete and submit the registration form in ILLiad before placing requests.

With ILL, you can request articles and book chapters for electronic delivery to your ILLiad account, in addition to borrowing physical materials. UBorrow+ is limited to physical items only.

Follow the steps below to complete your registration. You may occasionally be asked to verify your information, so be sure to keep your ILLiad profile up to date!
