About Mendeley

Mendeley is a reference manager that allows you to create a personal database of references related to your research, access or upload data, and insert citations into Word using any one of thousands of citation styles. If you are collaborating with other researchers, Mendeley allows you to share references.

Mendeley users can still sign up for a free account, which offers 2GB of web space and the ability to create 5 private groups with up to 25 members, or can upgrade to a premium plan to access more space or groups. This guide shares how to sign up for the free edition.

4 Steps to Getting Started with Mendeley

Register for an Account
You will need an account to use Mendeley. You can use any email address to register.

****Note: Your account will be your own. You can use your fsu email but DO NOT use your fsu password. Do not log-in with the institutional access option as FSU DOES NOT have a license for Mendeley****
Mendeley Reference Manager
The new Mendeley Reference Manager helps you simplify the tasks of building and organizing your reference library, making notes and annotations across papers, collaborating with others and inserting citations and bibliographies into the papers you’re writing. This is available as both a desktop and web app.
Mendeley Desktop (Older version)
As part of the continued evolution of Mendeley, from 1 September 2022, users will no longer be able to download and install Mendeley Desktop software. Existing users of Mendeley Desktop will continue to be able to sign into, use and sync their Mendeley Desktop.
Install the Mendeley Web Importer
Adding the Web Importer to your favorite web browser makes it easy to import references and documents from academic databases. (Note: Chrome users can install the bookmarklet, not the browser extension, for greater functionality)

Install the Mendeley Cite
Mendeley Cite speeds up the process of referencing when writing, giving you the tools to quickly and easily insert references from your Mendeley library directly into your Microsoft® Word document. Mendeley Cite is compatible with Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Word versions 2016 and above and with the Microsoft Word app for iPad®.

Mendeley's YouTube account has short tutorials and videos available for troubleshooting issues or problems.
