Strozier Instruction Room AV Equipment

A guide covering how to use and troubleshoot the AV equipment in both Strozier instruction rooms.

Overview

The equipment upgrade in the Strozier instruction rooms brings library staff and other presenters the ability to:

  • confer with groups of peers and collegues via Skype and video teleconferencing
  • record presentations
  • interact with projected images
  • annotate projected images
  • draw diagrams and illustrations via a digital whiteboard
  • easily switch between projector inputs
  • play music and other sound clearly

Tips

Always start from a basic state.
Before beginning a presentation or instruction session:
  • turn off all projectors
  • deactivate whiteboard mode
  • clear all projector inputs
Power on the equipment in the same order each time.
  1. Instructor Station PC (if applicable)
  2. Projector(s)
  3. Drag input icon onto projector area and/or toggle "Whiteboard" mode.

Troubleshooting

The computer is on but I only see a black screen!

The laptop icon stands for ANY external input connected to the AV equipment via an HDMI or VGA cable. The "Desktop PC" icon signifies the instructor station ONLY.

  • Is the projector on? Did you just turn it on? Sometimes the projector needs a moment or two to run through its cool-down/warm-up cycle.
  • Is your external device on and connected to the HDMI or VGA cable?
  • Have you dragged an input icon down onto a projector area?
  • Have you dragged the correct input icon down?

Applications and other items on the projected image keep jumping around!

  • Do you want to control the instructor's station via the projected image? If so:
    • use the pens instead of your fingers
    • take care not to touch or hover over the board with your other fingers or hand
    • try switching the whiteboard to "PC Free Annotation" mode and then back to "Mouse" mode
  • If you don't want to control the instructor station but want to use the digital whiteboard:
    • make sure the whiteboard is in "PC Free Annotation" mode
  • If you simply want to project an image and don't wish to use any of the projector's additional features, toggle "Whiteboard" off (the button will turn black).

(107a) I can't see the output from my Mac on the front projector!

  • Have you dragged the "Laptop" icon down into the projector area?
  • Use the VGA input. The front projector in 107a doesn't like the HDMI signal from a Mac.
  • Already using VGA? Try a different Thunderbolt to VGA adapter.

I can't hear anything from my laptop!

"Crestron HDMI" selected in sound output
Audio settings for a Mac displayed via HDMI: select the "Crestron" device for sound output.

  • Have you dragged the "Laptop" input icon onto a projector?
  • (107a) Are you using the side projector? Audio from external sources is routable only to the "Front Projector."
  • Is your laptop's volume up?
  • If using the VGA cable, you must also connect the audio cable to your laptop's headphone port.
  • (005a) If using a Mac and HDMI, you must select "Crestron" as the sound output.
