Strozier Instruction Room AV Equipment

A guide covering how to use and troubleshoot the AV equipment in both Strozier instruction rooms.

Projecting External Devices

Each instruction room offers VGA and HDMI cables for displaying external devices. The cables sit tucked behind the instructor station.

The cables supplied for projection from external sources. 1 is the combination VGA/Audio cable. 2 is the HDMI cable. HDMI requires no external audio, as it carries both signals. Those using the VGA cable must connect the audio cable to their device's headphone jack if they wish to hear sound.
Drag the "Laptop" icon onto the projector area to display any external source.

If the device does not have a VGA or HDMI output (Mac, Surface Pro), you'll need to use an adapter. Newer Macs feature a multipurpose Thunderbolt port that handles video (see image below). Other machines may feature different video outputs. Projecting from (recent) iPhones and iPads is possible via a Lightning to HDMI adapter.

A Mac's Thunderbolt port. A Surface's mini Display Port looks the same.
Thunderbolt adapters. They also work with Surfaces

A lightning adapter. It works only with iPads, iPhones, etc.

Caveats:

  • 107A: An external device must be set to "Front Projector" to play audio over the room's speakers!
  • 107A: "Front Projector" does not seem capable of displaying video from a Mac when using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. Use the VGA cable and a Thunderbolt to VGA adapter instead.
